On July 28, the Committee on National Statistics at the National Academy of Sciences released its report "Contingent Work and Alternative Work Arrangements." The committee is chaired by Institute vice president and director of research Susan Houseman.
In its report, the committee relies on the Contingent Worker Supplement of the CPS and other data sources to observe contingent workers and alternative work arrangements and the methodological issues that hinder their study. The report features the committee's guidance on how to better measure various aspects of the evolving "gig " economy.
