Job posting: Director of Regional Economic Planning Services

The W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research is seeking a Director to lead our Regional Economic Planning Services team.  This high-profile position offers diverse opportunities and responsibilities for a talented, entrepreneurial, and seasoned professional with a broad set of skills.  The Director of Regional Economic Planning Services performs three critical roles for the Institute:

  • Leads the Institute’s west Michigan outreach effort including the production of the Institute’s quarterly Business Outlook and presentations to local groups on regional economic issues;
  • Leads the Institute’s Regional Technical Assistance Program that provides analyses and assistance to public and private entities focused on workforce development, economic development, and education issues;
  • Leads the team of research and support professionals that assist with the above functions.

The ideal candidate for this position will hold a Ph.D. in public policy or economics and four years of relevant work experience or a Master’s Degree and six years of experience.  The Institute is seeking candidates who have demonstrated team leadership, project management, and success in writing winning proposals for grants and contracts.  The ideal candidate must also have demonstrated strong analytical skills, including knowledge of economic forecasting and input-output techniques, specifically REMI, experience performing regional economic analyses and impact studies, writing economic reports, and making oral presentations to general and professional audiences.
