Morris Kleiner receives the Labor and Employment Relations Association (LERA) 2018 LERA Lifetime Achievement Award

Morris Kleiner, professor and AFL-CIO Chair in Labor Policy at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey School of Public Affairs and Upjohn Institute visiting scholar and author, recently received the the Labor and Employment Relations Association (LERA) 2018 LERA Lifetime Achievement Award. This is the most prestigious award given by LERA and signifies the admiration and appreciation of the members of the association for a lifetime of work and achievement in the field.

In introducing Kleiner at the award ceremony, LERA president Harry Katz said

"Kleiner’s research interests include analysis of the role of institutions in the labor market, the influence of labor-management policies on organizations, and the role of labor unions in democratic societies. He has published extensively in the top academic journals in labor economics and industrial relations, and is the author, co-author, or coeditor of eight books. He is widely recognized as the world’s leading authority on occupational licensing.

Morris has put his research and analytic skills to use in the public policy domain, frequently serving as an expert witness and consultant to a host of government agencies and organizations including the National Science Foundation. He also has served as a certified factfinder for the Kansas Public Employee Relations Board. 

Morris also is an award winning teacher including being a recipient of the prestigious Humphrey Medal for outstanding teaching. He also has made major service contributions to the University of Minnesota serving among other things as the Director of Graduate Studies and Director of the Center of Labor Policy for a number of years."
